It seems to be legit. I need five people who believe it as well!

More updates forthcoming…
While reading an article on Slashdot about RSS feeds I realized I had been meaning to clean mine up a bit; the content is OK, but I linked to it in a messy way.
Then I noticed I don’t offer an Atom feed, and since everyone else is doing it I thought I should throw that into the mix as well. So here they are:
The world is happiness and glee.
Our good friend, Knoppix STD proved to be a great asset to any PC-troubleshooter’s toolbox the other day.
Jenn’s aunt’s Windows XP machine wouldn’t boot to anything but a lovely BSoD with an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error and scores of numbers strewn about the screen. I was worried a bit at first that the disk was corrupted and all the data was gone, because I had never seen this particular error before.
Armed with my trusty Knoppix STD disk, I booted into Linux and first tried mounting the problem-drive to see just how bad the problem was. It mounted, and all the files showed up with what seemed like no problem. So I got to a Fluxbox shell, fired up Firefox, and Googled the problem (hint: this means the network card was autodetected and DHCP got me on the router with nary-a-command). I got to a Microsoft page that offered a possible solution: boot from the XP disc, drop to the Recovery Console (by pressing ‘R’), run chkdsk /r, and reboot. I did so. Lo-and-behold, the glorious (blech!) Windows XP boot screen came up and the system booted normally.
OK, so maybe I owe some credit to the Windows XP disc but Knoppix certainly was useful!
Jenn, Fred, and I went to Cedar Point today. It was fun as always… we rode:
- White Water Landing
- Millennium Force
- Witches’ Wheel
- Blue Streak
- Giant Wheel
- Magnum XL-200
- Gemini
- Raptor
We ate at Johnny Rocket’s and had sundaes before we left, Mmmm!
I’m not sure why, or for how long, but SongMeanings is indeed down and has been down for several days. Apparently, a new link is being installed.
I’ll keep this updated as/if/when I hear more.
(This should provide an answer to the recent flood of traffic coming from “SongMeanings” Googlers.)
Today I start my vacation, until Monday, July 12! I’m not sure how much I’ll do, but time off should be good. I haven’t taken more than a few days off since I started working in August of 2002.
It’ll probably get wasted along with my Summer vacation.
